Free Online Writing Software

writingtagebucheintrag

If anyone else can advise any good free writing software it will be most appreciated :) I have been getting a lot more serious lately with my creative muse in the form of fiction writing and some memoir material, but I think I am annoyingly old school in that I write it all out on pad with pen, just like that bird above. I have tried http://www.mywritingnook.com/ and found it pretty easy to work with. I know there is always Word but it doesn’t help if you’re trying to write on the sly (like when you’re supposed to be at your desk doing work for the boss or nipping into the loo to access your Apps to get that award winning book written down ;) ) Here’s some creative fiction writing and screenplay sites I’ve been looking at that might come in handy. Any other tips/links would be welcome. Hope these links help other folks too. In no particular order:

1) http://www.mywritingnook.com/My Writing Spot provides a simple, uncluttered writing workspace. However, uncluttered doesn’t mean feature-poor. Whether you’re writing a novel or jotting down quick notes, all the essential features are there.

2) http://litlift.com/ – LitLift is a free online novel writing application built to help you research, store and organize the information you’ll need to write your novel. Whether you’re writing a mystery, a romance or the next great science fiction trilogy, LitLift is designed to help you make the most of your writing time.

3) http://hiveword.com/ – Online Fiction Organizer

4) http://www.plotbot.com/ – Write from any browser solo or with friends. No formatting headaches. There’s nothing to install, it’s free, and it’s easy to use.

5) https://www.celtx.com/index.html – Covers all formats from Screenplay, Radio, Novels, even Comics.

6) http://www.spacejock.com/yWriter5.html – yWriter5 is a word processor which breaks your novel into chapters and scenes, helping you keep track of your work while leaving your mind free to create. It will not write your novel for you, suggest plot ideas or perform creative tasks of any kind. yWriter was designed by an author, not a salesman!

7) http://gottcode.org/focuswriter/ – FocusWriter is a simple, distraction-free writing environment. It utilizes a hide-away interface that you access by moving your mouse to the edges of the screen, allowing the program to have a familiar look and feel to it while still getting out of the way so that you can immerse yourself in your work. It’s available for Linux, Windows, and Mac OS X, and has been translated into many different languages.

8) http://www.baara.com/q10/ – Q10 is a simple but powerful text editor designed and built with writers in mind.

Hope some of these sites inspire you to write that book, film, or play that is bursting out of you screaming to be written! :)
